I spent my early 20’s wondering what I wanted to be when I grew up, when I was a kid I honestly thought I would be an English teacher or a Veterinarian. I loved to read and loved dogs, so why shouldn’t I build my passion into a career someday?
I will never forget the semester that I had to take a Geoffrey Chaucer course and we had to read The Canterbury Tales which was written in Middle English dating back to the 1300’s. I called my mother and was shocked with how much that experience had left me hating my choice to study English and deciding on a major career change. She was pretty disappointed but understood my decision. My father was in the franchise industry and got me my first job at his company filing franchise agreements and well, my passion for the industry began from there.
I often think about the quote from Steve Jobs, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do” and realize how very true that is not only for myself, but for everyone I know. My friends and colleagues who love their jobs just seem HAPPIER for some reason.
At social functions they glow when you ask them about their job and how it’s going, their kids actually know what they do and can explain it, and in general it also seems that their social media posts are always more positive than those that don’t enjoy their work.
I am fortunate enough to be a franchise sales director for SafeSplash® Swim School, and that means that I get the pleasure of helping “unhappy” workers find a franchise to buy that allows for them to love what they do. It’s an awesome job and I get to meet such wonderful people, it makes me happy to help them move into a profession they will love and be passionate about.
I love what I do and can’t wait to help you find your passion too!
